I am writing this from the beautiful Bordeaux. The sun is out, and everyone seems happy here, perhaps because there is a lot of wine around the place. We arrived yesterday, after two days of travel from London. The ferry wasn’t as bad has I was expecting, no seasickness thank God. 50 minutes later we were in France, and it was a great feeling. However, that great feeling did not last too long. Stupid ol’ us thought we would be able to cash travellers cheques onboard, well actually this is what we were told from the bank at Dover port. Then no ATM or cash changing facilities at Calais port and with not enough cash for the both of us to take the bus, a long walk into town was our only option. But oh well, I suppose all that is a part of the adventure.

Calais is, well, ugly and had a very depressing feeling, no wonder the guide book doesn’t go into to any effort to tell you about the place. Our hotel was simple, but clean and compared to the utter shit hole we were staying in at London it was quite heavenly. So our journey to Bordeaux started the next day, 3 trains and several hours later we arrived and we are both really glad we came here. To anyone if you come to France please make this stop in your itinerary. Our hotel here is basic but very clean and nice and it’s right in town. We have already enjoyed one bottle of local rouge (red) wine and it was very yummy. Tonight I hope to enjoy some more, it is Saturday and should be quite busy around town.

Bordeaux at night. We took this on our first night, it was a lovley surprise seeing it all light up, it looked really beautiful.

The tourists here leave a different feel around here than in England, most are French tourists and not loud and over bearing. Though with mostly French tourists English is harder to come by, but nothing to really stress over we are communicating fine. Our French is, um, getting better. We are definitely trying to learn.

Monday we will be heading to Madrid, I know some people there so we should be able see Spanish life from a different perspective. We are not sure how long we will be in Spain for, but we definitely want to hang around until La Tomatina festival, which is at the end of August.

John has finally shaved!!!

Well it is coming to drink time, the sun is shining and my tummy is grumbling so we might join the locals in some evening dining.

Hope you are all well. xo
