Olympics' Past

So we had decided it would be pretty interesting to go see where the Olympics first started.  Unfortunately Olympia was harder to get to then we thought it would be since the train system is pretty bad in Greece and we arrived on the mainland late at night.  But after searching a desolate neighbouring town, we found 2 cabbies who were willing to drive us to Olympia.  When we arrived we found out that the one youth hostel was closed so, after waking up a few hotel owners at 12 at night, we found a cheap hotel.

The next day we spent touring the old archeological site of Olympia, the home of the gods!  It was loads of fun to see all the ruins of the place where not only the Olympics started, but where there were some incredible ruins of temples to the Greek gods.  It is remarkable to stand beside these massive marble pillars and barely match its full width with your height, especially when they are roughly 2700 years old!  After walking around a bit we took a look at a museum they have kept some original stone and marble in from the sight, things they could not keep outside.  All in all the town was not anything more then a day trip, but a worthy one in the end!
