The drive from Sidi Kauoki to Taghazoute is only around 150kms but takes a lot longer than you think it will! You travel inland until you reach the town of Tamri and then along a spectacular coastline. This area is very popular with surfers and the waves looked fantastic even from the car.

We drove to the campsite at Taghazoute, which is a few kilometers south of the town and right on the beach. The beach is fantastic, however the campsite is among the worst I have seen. We spoke later to people who had stayed there and it sounded even worse than it looked! We drove back north about 7kms to a campsite called Atlantic Park, unfortunately not on the beach, but far and away the best campsite we have seen in Morocco. In fact, better than most of the campsites in Spain!

We stayed here for a week enjoying the beautiful weather and temperatures in the high 20s and low 30s. Not bad for February! We drove down to the beach one day and parked the camping car right next to the sand – like having your own house on the beach!

Another day we drove down ‘Paradise Valley’ to the ‘Cascades’ at Immouzer des Ida Outanane. The valley was nice but hardly paradise. The cascades where much further on, perhaps a 2-hour drive, and much more of a dribble than a waterfall. The road is fairly hairy in parts as well, especially in the big truck! Also beware the hassle when you get there as not many people make the journey. All in all, not worth the effort.

To our great relief we found a ‘Marjane’ hypermarket in Agadir and restocked with all the things that are hard to get in Morocco (beer and cereal come to mind). We drove through Agadir but didn’t stop – the beach looked nice but the town was not at all Moroccan.

While we were here we celebrated Jays 4th birthday and had a party for him. Making a paddling pool cake complete with water (jelly) is a major achievement for a camping car kitchen! We had luckily bought him some presents in Spain before we left but I think he still missed his friends and family :-(

We were a bit sad to leave this area with its great weather and facilities but we need to get back to Spain and eventually France so we headed north again.

Dave.
