On the second leg of my tour, from Darwin to Alice Springs, there were 18 of us from 9 countries.  During the three days, we spent many hours on the road (it's about 1,500 kms or 900 miles), but still managed to pack in a full slate of adventures:

Seeing Charlie the water buffalo (now stuffed), who became famous in the movie Crocodile Dundee.

Cruising the Katherine River Gorge.  Given the season (end of the Wet), our boat was only able to take us through the first of 13 gorges.  This was disappointing because the second gorge is supposedly the best.  Still, the scenery was spectacular -- green water against red rock against blue sky.

Swimming in the emerald green water at the base of a waterfall.  This was, quite simply, one of the most beautiful spots I have ever visited.

Having lunch and a beer at the famous Daly Waters pub.  It was great fun to examine the items that decorated the joint -- ID cards, license plates, banners, dollar bills, coins, t-shirts and underwear from people and places all over the world.

Spending the night outdoors in a swag -- a canvas sleeping bag used by Aussie bushmen.

Climbing up, around and through the Devils' Marbles, a series of unusual, round (and some not so round) rock formations.

Stopping at more roadside pubs/petrol stations, whose attractions included colorful birds and aliens?!?
