Kobe Karaoke

A big group of Peter and Ani’s friends met up with us at an Irish bar in Sannomiya for a drink before we all headed out to Torehinu for dinner. The concept was great – pay Y3900, then you get a massive meal and it’s all you can drink for 1.5 hours. You cook your own food in a pot full of soup, talk with some great people and generally enjoy yourself.
The restaurant booted us out and off we went to have another great Japanese experience, karaoke! It isn’t the same as in New Zealand i.e. singing in front of a whole bar of random, drunk people. Instead we were given a room with two microphones, a stage, a TV and a book of at least a trillion songs; or there about. In a nod to the Japanese drinking culture, the karaoke included all you can drink for 2 hours at Y1400 pp – hmmm…. starting to think that the Japanese binge drinking culture is worse than New Zealand’s. To cut it short, the night was a total success. The singing was incredible (until we listened to the video the next day) and everyone really enjoyed themselves.
