It was a quick plane ride from Istanbul to Athens--and even though the cities are close in distance, they are worlds apart in terms of vibe.  Athens is, well, OLD...you can hear the bones creak, it's so old.  Co-mingling with modern business complexes are fallen pillars of ancient times, sparking the imagination with images of chariots and warriors!   The crowning jewel of the city is the Acropolis, although everywhere you turn you see impressive and imposing ruins of one kind or another.  In fact, there are so many it is hard to keep the names straight...temple of zeus, house of apollo, brothel of venus (kidding!)...I studied a bit of greek and roman mythology in high school, but still had to rely heavily on the guidebooks for information.  Here are a few pix and you'll have to guess what is what...
