After finding the Ryokan, which took a bit of finding as the street names were confusing because the map from the tourist centre did not match the street signs we set out to get a meal. Tried two Japanese bar/restaurants the beer was great but the food did not look or taste very good. Gave up in the end and had a pizza! Next day Wednesday we took the bus to the temple area of Kyoto, this area is most visited when the cherry blossom is out, only in bud on our visit, still the gardens and temple were very pretty.

After visiting the temples, shrines and gardens we returned to the station and caught the Shinkansen to Okayama to the west of Kyoto, another modern city with superb public transport, trains, underground, trams and buses. Tried another Japenese pub snack, dumplings not too bad but did not risk a meal pizza again.
