Here are the highlights from the last week. I got to Bangkok today and immediately hopped on the skytrain to the mall. I know. I'm an idiot. But I had a CHEESEBURGER. AND WINE. AND I SAW JOHNNY DEPP IN "PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN" and I refuse to apologize.

The mall, I have to say, is insane. You can buy, say, a book there, or a t-shirt, or, um, a Maserati. I don't think anything in that mall costs less than 4000 baht. The Oriental Hotel, arguably one of the nicer hotels on the planet, has a little restaurant there, right smack in the middle of the Maserati mall. That's where I got my cheeseburger. And my wine--a nice woody, buttery chardonnay from Argentina. Oh, how I've missed wine. I didn't even know I missed it until I held the delicate, thin wine glass. So good. And I half got tanked on it--haven't drunk in a while...but it made the movie really good! And while I waited for my heavenly dinner to arrive, I read pages 272 through 277 in Love in the Time of Cholera. Florentino Ariza is just about the sail away with Fermina Daza, after so many years of waiting. It's lovely. It would have been a perfect night alone, were it elsewhere but a mall. But I'll take it. Absolutely no complaints.
