Saturday 23rd april

Morning visit to the big covered market where all types of local produce were on display. Plenty of choice if you wanted to cook up a stir fry.

2 nights in Geneva

Departed Dijon and headed towards Lausanne. Stopped at Bescanon for lunch. A large town with amazing ancient buildings and narrow cobble streets.Huge fortresses on clifftops

Travelled over some snow covered mountains rising to about 1000 ft and - spectacular fortesses on clifftops guarding towns fom marauding hordes.

Arrive at Lausanne to find place gridlocked- some sort of street running race - drive around in circles barricades everywhere -Clare has hissy fit - stop for beer and campari break - re-group. Decided Lausanne not for us and head for Geneva. Road along lake has several small towns - stop at Rolle but hotel too expensive. Next stop Nyon - 2* hotel -very expensive - Clare tired and grumpy - thinks hotel is O.K. - Paul thinks its a brothel - pep talk required - on to Geneva.

Arrive at Geneva at 8PM - time to have dinner and re-group. Finding parking very difficult - dodging buses trams and maniac drivers quite testing. Finally find underground car park and walk to centre ville - tourism office closed but brochures available about hotels - find restaurant - dinner - re-group.

Waiter advises Hotel next door available - 4* but able to negotiate good deal because of late hour. Decide to leave car in underground car park and check into hotel - very classy hotel - Clare happy - decide to stay 2 nights to re-group.
