We stopped for lunch on the way down the coast on Friday the 31st of March. We had assume calamari and spinach. The owner was born in Zadar and insisted that we stop there.
Dotted along the highway was one picturesque village after another, white washed buildings and red-tiled roofs; some ancient and some new.
Brent gets a speeding ticket !
We pulled in to Zadar, the sun was shining and the drive down the coast was slow and winding. We stopped at a Pansione which was a nice room above a restaurant, great food and nice people. We took a two hour walk to the center of town; there were Roman columns and arches, with Christian Churches added centuries later. We returned to the restaurant for a bowl of soup and salad and up to our room to rest up for our drive the next day to Dubrovnick.

We have now decided that Pansione’s are the way to go (these are the Pensione’s that we are used to in other country’s) providing the room and restaurant, but not the hotel atmosphere and cost.
Brent should mention that he came up with another first in foreign travel – a speeding ticket to the tune of 500 kunes ($80.00 U.S,). He couldn’t even argue that everyone else was driving even faster. On top of not being able to understand anything the cop was saying (he showed me the radar speed on his gun) Brent had to pay in cash on the spot.
