May 7th

We caught the 11:30pm plane ride with AirAsia to Phuket island for $45. Upon arrival at 1:30 am we went straight to our accomodations that looked French colonial on the outside but very grubby on the inside. I guess you can't expect much for 3 bucks a night. Woke up in the morning and went looking for the nearest beach. Unfortunately for us, nobody told us that Phuket city was not the happening place and we ended up not finding a beach and being very digusted with the state of the city.

We met some people the night before at a restaurant who were going to "Phuket"(had a scuba diving shop here) and we decided to give them a call. They pretty much told us to get out of the city and we took the local bus to one of the closest beaches (which what they meant when they said they were goingto Phuket...we were kinda bitter that nobody told us they meant the beach).

Upon arrival at Kata Beach, we started looking for a place to sleep. Walked around for close to 3 hours with bags on our shoulders looking for something cheaper than 20 bucks a night and eventually decided to stop and possible hire a scooter. Both Agy and I tried to ride it, and we did fine, but neither one wanted to take the chance and get hurt because they drive on the wrong side of the road and drive like maniacs. While we were debating, a Canadian was watching and advised us against renting them. Agy said something like "I wish we had a bike" and voila.. the guy rents bikes. So we rented 2 of them for 24 hours and he also knew someone who was renting a room for 8 bucks a night. We went there and got a room. Room was great, even had air conditioning and satilite TV. Went for dinner.
