Off on my own!
From Off on my own! in Hong Kong, China on Sep 29 '02
Today I spent the day alone. It was very refreshing. I really like walking around without anyone saying are you ready to go. There's something to say about traveling alone. You never have to anwser to anyone else and you have no time frame.
I wandered off to Hong Kong's park and Zoological and Botanical Gardens. Wow are the hills here steep! No more stairs!! I can take no more.
Hong Kong park is filled with families everywhere for it's National Day. There is a pond with large yellow, organge and grey goldfish, a small waterfall, a conservatory, a avory, childrens playground, children's educational center, Tai Chi court, marriage registry, tower to view the city, and a museum of Tea Ware and a Visual Arts Museum. Very relaxing even with all the people around, I enjoy observing them. Also got to write a few post cards. Next stop Zoo/gardens. Not as large at the Park, but nice. I'm beat, back to Chris's.
We watched a movie and then went out for dinner with Robin to Andy's Diner. Authentic Chinese food. Ok.. I tried it twice, it's not my cup of tea. Don't get me wrong I'd eat it if I had to survive but not by choice. More chop sticks!
Off to Dicken's Pub again to meet Andy, Fiona, and Beth. The Raven's are playing Denver on tape at the bar. What fun... I get a little taste of home. Makes me feel good being this far way. Fireworks for the National Day start at 9pm. Over 250,000 people came over the boarders today to see them from mainland China. Mom would have enjoyed it. As soon as the fireworks started everyone yelled and streamed. This continued the whole time for 22 minutes to be exact. There favorite was the heart and the very large ones.
I couldn't stop giggling from their excitement of the fireworks. Mom you would have loved it. They are your kid of people when it comes to fireworks.
Tomorrow...shopping in Stanley then to Australia.
