Moscow was very different to Saint Petersburg the ostentatious castles and churches are replaced with drab communist buildings.
We arrived in Moscow after an overnight train trip from Saint Petersburgh. We had a trip to the Kremlin before our NYE banquet and celebrations. The Kremlin was impressive, the banquet on the frozen lake was nice and then we headed off to the red square to bring in the new year.
The Russian celebrations in the red square were like a byo version of sydney harbours effort. Everyone seemed to have bought there own fire crackers which they let off when they felt like it and we rung in the ny with a bunch of drunk mongolians! After the countdown ended we were ushered out of the square by police with machine guns. So it was a very different NYE.

Also who knew that everything in Moscow closes for the New Year... so no ballet and KGB museum for us. boo
