we escaped from hot, stinky athens to the first destination of our island hopping adventure. we caught the high-speed ferry from athens to naxos (the biggest of the cyclades islands). the cyclades islands are were we found the white-washes houses with bright blue domed roofs that are in all the postcards. very nice. :) we saw the remains of the temple of apollo and watched the sunset from a beach nearby our hotel room. connie got a bug bite on her ankle which grew to astronomical size...it looked like she had a mini-goiter growing on her ankle...it was incredible. caught a bus to halkia where we toured a kitron distillery (kitron is a liquer created from the leaves of a type of lemon tree). caught another bus to apiranthos after enjoying ice cream in the shade. (did i mention that it was fricking hot on naxos?) we decided to try and find the church of ayia kyriake, but gave up after hiking down a long, windy path for what seemed like hours...okay, it was probably only 15 minutes...did i mention that it's fricking hot on naxos??.
