We arrived in Cape Town at about 7 am after and 11 hour flight from Heathrow.  I had got quite a lot of sleep on the plane so was raring to go - also only being two hours time difference from the UK it was not too bad.  The weather was just SLIGHTLY different from the UK - only about 25 degrees warmer!  After queuing to get through immigration we grabbed some breakfast and hire car and headed to our hotel.  The city was just as I remembered it from 3 years ago, it was nice to see that on first glance not much had changed.

After a well deserved nap (well I thought it was well deserved!) after reaching our hotel we took a walk down to the V&A Waterfront and did a bit of shopping - they have some great home stores and jewellery but not much else to be honest.  It was then definitely time for sundowners before we went out to dinner at the Five Flies which was great.  Not your normal way to spend Christmas Eve!

Fabulous Place

Christmas Day dawned bright and sunny and after opening a couple of presents I brought with me we decided to go to the beach.  Clifton has 4 different beaches, each a walk down about 100 steps from the road.  We settled on one and spend most of the day doing some sunbathing.  My Christmas lunch consisted of a chicken and lettuce sandwich bought off a man on the beach selling drinks and snacks.  It seemed wierd to be thinking of everyone in the UK sitting down to a full Christmas lunch with Turkey etc.  I much preferred lounging on the beach.  We went for dinner at Manolo which is a really special restaurant (although probably the most expensive one in Cape Town!).
