We got to San Cristobal from Agua Azul in exactly three minutes. Seriously, I fell asleep and opened my eyes after we went over a bump, and there we were. We had dinner in our hotel with a free margarita and hit the sack. The next day we peeked around the town, had coffee and cake, and met Alex and Raul who were going to take us to two nearby Mayan villages.

Those Mayans looove Christmas. We popped into a place where there was pine branch burning and mirrored deities and Christmas tinsel and a tablecloth with Santa and snowflakes and reindeer. Fabulous. Then we saw a local food market and inside a church where they do ritual sacrifices and burn a whole bunch of different candles to ward off jealous enemies or pray to the god of maize or rain. We saw another village too, by the way I will add the names when I remember them, and we met a little family who were weaving and making tortillas and we saw where they lived and learned a bit about their traditions.

Baggy Pantalones!

That evening we went to a local reggae bar and had lots of two-for-one Sex on the Beach, did some loony dancing out the back and watched a wicked Ska/Salsa band - how cool! Like a crazy latin Madness! Loved it.
