Shanghai airport. Leaving the craziest city I have ever been to. Smoggier and more crowded than Beijing, Shanghai was quite an experience. Shanghai is where it’s at if you’re into crowds of people, bright lights, and lots of noise. It is unlike anything I have ever experienced. I am a country girl and it was too much for me- total sensory overload. I can’t even find the words to describe what Shanghai was like so I will leave you with photos and just a few quick highlights:

Getting on the subway at the People’s Square, mid rush-hour, packed in like sardines- really. No one else would have fit if they tried, when the doors opened to let us off, people sort of unfolded out of the train.

Our day trip to a smaller city, Suzhou, just out of Shanghai (you know it’s bad when it is a relief to be in a city with only 6 million people!), to visit some famous gardens there.

Taking the tourist train to the other side of the river, a short ride but totally psychedelic with music and a wild light show.

Riding to the airport on the Maglev train, reaching a top speed of 431 kilometers/hour!

Leaving Shanghai, heading to Hong Kong and the Shangri-La!!!!! Pure luxury for 2 nights.
