Humid and Hot!
From First Week In England in Valencia, Spain on Jul 19 '06
Well Valencia was a solid change from what we thought Barcalona would be like.
Valencia is just off the coast of the Med and is a beautiful town that I think we all enjoyed tons. The hostel was very nice except that it again did not have any means of cooling except for fans. The only thing was that the fans were in the common room and in ther bedrooms were roof fans which did absolutely nothing. So we solved this by taking some of the staff out for drinks one night and then just grabbing the fans from the common room and putting them in our room. Before this you just woke up in a sweat which really sucks.
The weather was amazing, it didnt rain once and it was nothing but clear blue skies. Unfortunately being right on the coast, Valencia gets very very humid. When you combine the massive amounts of humidity with the high tempretures it gets really pretty sickly. But nothing AC banks wouldnt solve. We ended up cashing a lot of travellers cheques.
The sites around Valencia are minimal so we saw what we wanted to and then really just took it easy as we did for most of Spain. The first night we went out we tried going to the beach which worked out. We thought we would go for a nice dinner on the beach, but infact we could only find two restaurants along the beach, both which were Pizzarias. So we had dinner at one of these and then went in the water for a bit. The only thing was was that we missed the last bus back into town so we ended up trying to talk to some locals and other people who were lost. In the end we walked a long way and then just got a cab which ended up not being to bad at all. The second day we headed back to the beach for a bit more swimming and just to check out the other areas of town and this time made it back on the bus. That night we ended up going to some club along the beach that was supposed to be one of the best in Spain. The only thing is is that the guy who told us where to go along the beach since it is fairly long, forgot to tell us the spot to meet up at since we had to take two cabs. So in the end it was two crazy groups of wild tourists having their own shin dig at some pub! The best part was we arrived back at the hostal at the very same time. So after that the next day we went down to some large group of science and aqua buildings. The buildings are somethign to go see for their architecture, it was amazing. I will try and get pictures up as soon as possible but I have a lot of writing to do to catch up right now. Anyways, we ended up chekcing out the science museum which was pretty solid except for it being spanish. So we ended up pretending like we knew what they were talking about which made it much more amusing. That night we went to go see the freaking Pet Shop Boys!! Wildy insane 80's-90's music infront of this science building which I was just talking about. It was actually pretty cool since they played on a stage on the water infront of the building. Either way, this Swedish guy that came along was really into them.
Anyways that was Valencia for the most part. Just basically a great city and I think we would all go back.
