EDIT: Sorry everyone, I can't figure out this Mac so I'm leaving the sideways pictures up and will edit and add captions later.
Yesterday we flew from Madras to Delhi. It wasn't the best of days. We got lost on the way to the airport; when we finally got on the plane, we were seated next to the Stinkiest Man Alive (thanks Sishir for taking the middle seat and giving me the aisle) and then when we landed our driver wasn't there to pick us up since we were an hour late. Since we didn't have a cell phone, there was a lot of shuffling back and forth 200 yards (in the hot hot sun and the sticky sticky flies) to the nearest phone booth to call the travel agent, the driver, Sishir's cousin who we were supposed to be having lunch with, etc. After standing for over an hour, we finally found the driver and made it to Jeetu's house. They had already eaten, but we did manage to say hi to Aunt Priya (we met her back on Day 1) before she got on HER flight back to Madras. Lunch was great and then I was down for the count. At first I thought I had a head cold, but now I think it's just allergies. At any rate, I slept the rest of the day.

While in Delhi, we're staying with Jeetu and Purnima (and Ananya). Jeetu and Sishir are cousins; he is Priya's son and Anant's brother. We've met them several times, including at Cousin Vish's wedding in Indianapolis and of course our own wedding. They just moved to Delhi a few months ago from New York and have an awesome apartment in the Gurgeon area, which is a brand new development south of the city that has all sorts of glass office complexes, malls, restaurants, high rise apartments, pretty much like you'd see in downtown Chicago. It's crazy to see it grow out of the middle of nowhere.
Today we headed in for a tour of Delhi. Delhi is the capital of India and it's amazing the difference between here and Madras - there are real highways, and wide boulevards, and skyscrapers, and beautiful new buildings. There are also many many old monuments, tombs, forts, etc. Delhi has been the seat of power for at least 7 civilizations, the first of which was before Christ. So, you can imagine there is plenty to see. We covered a lot of ground today - highlights include Qutab Minar, Delli Haat, Humayan's Tomb, and India Gate. The pictures speak for themselves.
