TRAIN TO BORDEAUX!!!!!!!! YEEHAH!! We arrived finally in bordeaux after all this trekking and read our trusty lonely planet only to find that the grape picking season was not for another 2 months and that according to the book we were now stuck in the "seedy" part of bordeaux. We had no idea what to do next, looked at renting a van but it was going to cost a fortune, we were finally at our destination and had no idea of what to do, so we followed our noses which happened to be more smelly backpackers and found a bus station. No one really knew any english and we saw a bus with "Bordeaux to Lacanau ocean" written across it so we thought what the hell? and jumped on it paying 12 euro fifty to get to the coast. We had discovered a dream town, Lacanau was the coolest, a little surfing town, great weater, waves and heaps of young people. it reminded me of summer bay, there were school leavers on and it also happend to be the centenary cellabration month, so there were heaps of live bands and was only one week until a big surf comp called the Lacanau Pro. Jordan and Holly were stoked as they are big surf fans. We stayed in a smelly little "hotel" for a night for a hefty price and would look for camp sites in the morning. There was an Australian bar with an old aussie bloke who told us that there used to be an old lady who let people camp in her front yard. We put all of our bags in a trolly, looking homeless and searched for the old ladies house, finally we found it, the myth was true, there were about 8 tents through out her back and front yard, the house was a shit hole, but we didnt care, we were sleeping in our luxury tents..... not! the price was 8 euro 50 per night and there was a communal shower and toilet, it was great. there was a beautiful young french/ spanish girl camping opposite us and a whole heap of french and brazillian guys camping out the back. It had a really good vibe to it and everyone was really nice. No body spoke much english but we could get by. I ended up staying two weeks in this ladies garden, the other thre got jobs at the australian bar, i was offered a job but gave it to dan as he needed it more than i, to support his drinking and smoking habits! Holly and Jordan worked in the night time and dan worked mornings.i hung around with the french guys and girls in the day, bumming around at the beach and watching the surf comp with Holly and Jords and then would watch Dan get smashed each night, me drinking every second night and going out to the night clubs and beach. Every one smokes hashish in our camp site, which was a bit of a shock. I jumped on this band wagon aswell (sorry grand parents) but only lasted a week as it was killing my throat, you also had to smoke it with tobacco in joints which was not cool as i have quit for almost 6 months, on the 6th of september!! So i cleared up my throat and head and made some more plans to continue on the journey, booking a plane from Barcelona to London on the 7th of september. Holly and Jordan quit their jobs after 10 days so i got to hang out with them for a few more fun days. I got quite close to the french/spanish girl, Marine but nothing ever happend of it as she got back together with her ex boyfriend, and we were always pissing eachother off. BUMMER!!!!!!!! I left the beloved "pooey lacanuey"(as Jords called it) and left my new travelling mates to go solo and head off to San Sebastian and Barcelona. Lacanau is an absolutely awesome little town for the summer and will definately return in the future, this place would be great to camp with a heap of close mates and a great place to learn how to surf. although i was only there for 16 days, i have made some great mates there who i will keep for life, including Marine the moon goddess! This town gave me a whole new interpritation of the french in a very positive way.
