Nice, France.  A great backdrop for your studies ... warm weather, seaside, and so many other great locations just a train ride away.  If you survive the disorganized administration of the school system, chaotic traffic and dog poo around every corner, you can really get to enjoy the great atmosphere!  I hope you will appreciate my optimistic pessimism - it is truly a great experience to be here... immersed in the French language and culture (immersed for the most part as we have a group of 19 Canadians that take classes and many of whom live together).

I am happy to be living with a very kind french woman here in the North of the city.  I have my own room but share the kitchen/bathroom with her.  She has been very helpful with advice and in the many things that she provides for me so that I don't have to buy them.  Also - we have a cleaning lady that comes every week!  I certainly appreciate that!  The rent is not expensive either, but the location is not the best.  It is quite far from school, the beach and Vieux Nice.. but everything for daily needs, food and stuff, are all around.  I have a place that I go for cheese, a patisserie for bread... there are actual supermarkets but they are often more expensive for things like cheese and meat.

In search of the great beaches we travelled to Beaulieu du Mer, Cannes... The beaches here in Nice are all rock beaches - except the small plots of sand that they have installed.  If you head west towards Cannes you will find more sand to go with your sun.
