Everybody's Gone Surfin'...Surfin' Cox Bay!

Got up at 8.50am and as we finished showering the guy in our room said "oh somebody has just reversed into that white truck"...yep our white truck! We ran down stairs to find a very light scratch and minimal dent in the passenger door. The women who did it couldn't apologise enough and gave us her contact details incase John wanted to get it repaired. After breakfast decided we wanted to go surfing so rang Pacific Surf Co and booked us a 3hr lesson at 11am. Left the hostel at 10.25am and drove the very short distance to the store where we paid and signed our lives away! Then drove to Cox Bay where we met our instructor (Nicole) and the 2 other people joining us. We got kitted out in our wetsuits, boots and gloves and then carried our soft top long boards down onto the beach. The weather was quite overcast and the waves were apparently medium to small and the conditions were good. We learnt about the different hazards, waves, details of the board and how to "pop up" on the board. Both felt a bit silly practising on an imaginary board drawn in the sand, but it helped! After a quick warm up we entered the water and got accustomed to the 12 degree water. Nicole helped each one of us to try and get up but then we tried for ourselves with her assisting when necessary. We spent the best part of 2hrs chucking ourselves around and getting battered by the powerful waves. Needless to say we really enjoyed it, especially when we managed to get up on the boards for whatever period of time we could! By the end we were both knackered and when we got back into Tofino around 2.15pm we bought some soup to warm the cockles of our hearts! We ate lunch back at the hostel and flaked out infront of the TV for what was surposed to be 1 hr but we ended up sitting all afternoon watching the ice hockey (Canucks). We had a feast of spaghetti for dinner and rewarded our hard work surfing with some pancakes.
