One of the highlights of this trip was our visit to the Perito Moreno glacier. It´s one of the largest glaciers here in Argentina with a height of about 60m and a 5km front. We took a tour bus to the glacier and just as we were about to come around the mountain to get our first look at the glacier from afar, the bus driver put in a CD that played the Star Wars theme and had a countdown for the exact second we would see the glacier. Weird.

A 2hr. boat cruise took us up close to the glacier amidst chunks of ice floating in the water. With both the sun and clouds in the sky, the color of the glacier appeared white and grey at times and a soft crystal blue at others.

The glacier cracked and rumbled continuously. Every now and then, we were lucky enough to see a large chunk of ice crash into the water below and make massive waves.

After the boat cruise, we walked along the platforms right in front of the glacier and hoped to see more pieces fall into the water. At one point, we waited and waited, but there wasn´t much activity. Then, just as we were about to walk away, a massive slab broke off making a deafening sound and large waves in the water. So incredible!
