We have been through Bangkok twice before in our time in Asia and never have we braved the hectic city. We have always chosen to enter and exit the next day. The city is vast and the streets are all packed. There are Tuk Tuks zooming though small alleys, taxis honking at you, speeding motorcycles, and a rather hot muggy and smelly city. It took us two tries to finally build up the courage to venture into the city. Lucky for Alex he was able to tag along on this fun adventure.
We picked Alex up late the first night and allowed him to fall into his bed, poor guy traveled for 30 hours. Up early the next day we were off. We had temples to visit, Tuk Tuk drivers to argue with and transit to figure out. All and all it was a fun day. We chose to visit the ancient temples of Bangkok first. Wat Phra Kaew is the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, he was much smaller then we had expected though very sacrad. It is posted everywhere that you are not aloud to take photos of the Emerald Buddha though we spent 15 minutes watching gringo after gringo be guided out by a smiling security guards as they were asked to erase the photos they had taken. That was not as entertaining as watching Alex and Pete try to sit crossed legged on the floor of the temple..haha. Next we visited Wat Pho that houses (barely) the country's largest reclining Buddha. We could hardly capture the head!

The next day we spent a few hours walking around the Chatuchak Weekend Market. It sprawls over a vast area with 15,000 stalls and an estimated 200,000 visitors a day. Anything you could imagine is sold here. We spent a good amount of time in the pet area were I was restrained from buying a few pug puppies. OMG they were cute.
After a good day of shopping we were utterly exhausted, specifically Alex who was by that time suffering some major culture shock!
Off to the beautiful beaches of Southern Thailand, after a few days in Bangkok it was highly needed.
