Julia and I had another early start to join our 3 day tour around Litchfield, Kakadu and Mary Wetlands National parks. We visited some spectacular sights, swam in beautiful waterfalls and saw lots of wildlife.
We started in Litchfield National Park and swam in Bluey’s rock pools , which are lots of little pools cascading into one another , with lots of bubbles. If you sit in the right place you can get a lovely back massage !! In the afternoon we went on a boat cruise in Mary River wetlands. This was amazing as we saw fresh water aswell as massive salt water crocodiles !! It was really beautiful with lots of lotus flowers on the water and birds. We camped that night with our group and enjoyed some more campfire food.

In Kakadu we visited a site which had a lot of very good aboriginal cave paintings. The style is quite different from the ‘ dot paintings’ in the red centre. These pictures show the inside of people and animals and are know as ‘ x-ray’ paintings. They are very detailed. We also did some really cool 4wd to the famous Jim Jim Falls. We had a great walk to them and then spent some time swimming and enjoying the view. We had a few other stops offs to more wetlands and some great lookouts.

We spent a couple of days in Darwin to recover from our tour before we met Sharon ( who we lived with in Sydney) and Tim and Kelly ( who we met in NZ and live in Sydney) We hired a 4WD with them and had a great time bombing around the National Parks independently. It was really good to spend some more time in these amazing places and to go at our own place . .I was able to take a lot more photos! We re visited some of our favourite places, did a great long bush walk in Katherine Gorge and also visited the very picturesque Ubir, with some more artwork but also superb views. This morning we got up really early and went down to yellow river and watched the sunrise and saw loads of birds. It was fantastic. Sad goodbyes though to our friends but Western Australia tomorrow !! We will be Wwoofing ( like we did in NZ) again for about a week before exploring this new state.
