Oslo to Myrdal, Myrdal to Flam, Flam to Bergen

We wake up so early this morning to catch a 6:30am train to Flam. We had read that all of the "nutshellers" take the 8:11am train out of Oslo, so my theory was to beat the crowds and lines and arrive early and have lunch in Flam and relax.. After all, this will be a 5 hour train ride thru the country side. The idea works and the train is not crowded and the seats in front of us are empty so we can stretch out.. The first 2 hours were dead boring, lots of mountains but we can see that back home right? After 2 hours, the scenery changed dramatically and we came upon glaciers, snow capped mountains and waterfalls. We also saw mountain goats and sheep mixed in along the way. This was now a spectacular train ride. We didn't know which side of the train to look out as we were surrounded by beauty. It was every bit breathtaking and worth every ounce of pain to get up so early and ride for so long. When we arrived in Myrdal, we took some quick pictures and waited for the train to Flam.. the view from here was awesome.. surrounded by mountains and snow in July , this was incredible. I now wish we were here in winter because I love snow , and it probably is even dreamier cascaded in white.

The Flamsbana express arrives and we board for another 55 minutes down to the harbor. I didn't think this was possible but this ride has a little bit more scenery than Myrdal and the train conductor is making all the right stops and driving real slow so we can capture all of this in pictures. Although , there are probably no pictures or words to describe this region. I would say a little piece of Heaven , it is so lush and dotted with waterfalls at every turn. When we arrive at Flam , we head to the TI to pick up ur boat tickets to Bergen. We have a 2 hour break and the Fjord 1 cruise to Bergen will take just under 5 hours. So we grab lunch in a little restaurant , I might call it a cafeteria but it establishes itself as a restaurant. So, if anyone thought Danmark or Sweden were expensive , it is no competition for Norway. For $72.00 USD , you can get a hamburger and fries , a hot dog with no bun and fries , and 2 cokes!! Isn't that a steal!! Hahahahaha! We board the boat at 3pm and begin our journey to Bergen. This is what we have been waiting for and what we have traveled 6 hours to see, a cruise thru the Sognefjord! Cruising the Sognefjord was stunning and breathtaking, I will have to let the pictures speak for themselves!!! The cruise was 5 hours and after 3 hours , we were a little tired of the mountains.. we were out of the Sognefjord and now stopping at little towns along the way. Balestrand looked really nice and worth spending a few days.. when we arrive in Bergen we are so disappointed that we did not have a full day here! This place was jumping with a great marina, fresh fish at your fingertips and a lot to see and do within a few square miles. They say Bergen gets only 60 days of sunshine a year so... we also lucked out here, they were going thru a dry spell with no rain.. Our hotel was at the BERGEN airport, a great location and HIGH TECH hotel. The perfect ending to Bergen and quick escape back to Copenhagen. While in Bergen , we both decide that this place is worth a second trip and so we hope Billy and Laurie decide to do this journey one day, we can be the tour guide.. we know for sure , we will back here one day!
