I'm finally here....now what am I doing?

From Here I go.... in Auckland, New Zealand on May 21 '07

ShellyG has visited no places in Auckland

I think that was the question I was asking myself when I walked out of the hostel at 8am and promptly headed 2 miles in the wrong direction.....doh!

Although the day has passed in a jet-lagged haze I have learned some interesting things about Auckland....

1) The fruit-sniffing dogs at the airport are really good at what they do...even if you ate the apple out of your bag an hour earlier and you SWEAR you don't have any fruit....

2) Fashion ranges from trendy Asian to CA surfer to lots of really ugly cowboy boots

3) It's possible to walk for miles behind the loading area of the harbor and actually not see the water.

4) The random barber shop in the small suburb probably isn't the smartest place to get your hair cut.  (Of course flying half-way around the world to get a hair cut probably isn't smart in the first place)

This one is the kicker

5)Male construction workers wear really short shorts.....I'm talking like ladies running shorts.   I thought the first guy I saw was a fluke but no I spotted several others throughout the day.   Picture it....yes it's that funny

My other interesting story of the day-  So work has been crazy heading up to this trip.   I was still doing last minute items at 2pm on Sunday  when my flight left at 6.   Part of my relief of getting on the plane was putting it all behind me.  So I'm wandering around Auckland all day (lost for most of it) and decide to take the ferry across the harbor.   I get on and sit down and I'm enjoying the view of the city as the boat pulls away.   I look up and there the largest building in my sight....PwC.   I apparently can't get away ;)

Glad to hear you're enjoying Kiwi country. Hope you can catch an All Blacks Rugby match while you're there. By the way, can you bring back some of those short-shorts for the guys on the softball team?

Don't forget to check out SkyCity and if you are in the mood for steak, Angus Steak House on corner of Albert & Swanson had huge cuts of meat and good wine!! Can't wait for the pictures!

So wait, there were PwC men employees wearing short shorts and ugly cowboy boots?! ... Oh wait, I think I misread that. We miss you around here, I have no one to call every 5 minutes, you better be having a lot of fun.

First...Tony, you are way to obsessed with her haircut!! My question is this...do you have any pictures of the country side or even better...your new hair cut?

Wow Shelly, I hope you are at a loss of words because it is so great and not because you have nothing to say about NZ. Hopefully it is not the later. If it is, I might have to reconsider meeting you next week. That is an awfully long flight to have nothing to write home about. :) I never got an email on where I’ll be meeting you. Just let me know as soon as you get it nailed down so I can figure out how to get there. I can’t wait!!

Glad you are having a great time. Can't wait to see pictures!! Can you post any to this web site (if so, please do not include any construction worker pics). No one needs to see that.

So why do you have to fly half way across the world to get a hair cut?!?!?
