Australia: Adelaide
From Traveling around Asia in Adelaide, Australia on Sep 25 '07
After having a great tour down from Alice we arrived in Adelaide. Most of the group ended up staying in the YHA which is really nice and has great facilities. Darwin and the Northern Territories reminded me of Inverness and the Highlands. Not because of the scenery or the weather but by the friendly small town atmosphere and the feeling of isolation from big population areas. Adelaide on the other hand is more like Glasgow but not quite so lively. It's bigger and more cosmopolitan with a mix of modern tower blocks and traditional stone buildings, museums art galleries and the University. There are a great selection of cheap Asian eating options which is a really pleasant change from the deep fried road food we have been surviving on for so long. I thought Scotland was bad for it's fried food but Australia is worse. In the two days since getting to Adelaide I've avoided Australian and went entirely Asian. I have eaten Chinese, Thai and Japanese. I've eaten Sushi 3 times now.
Since almost everyone on our tour got on so well we have all been spending a lot of time together since getting here and have done a lot of eating and drinking together. I have really enjoyed all the tours I have done in Aus. They tend to be expensive but they are a great way of meeting people.
