Getting off of the Train
Boy I wish we spoke french. We were pretty much spoiled in our travels up to this point. London of course is all english speaking and the people of the Netherlands, at least those we ran across, were conversational, but here in Paris... it is all french, with a tidbit of broken english.
We heard horror stories, both in our travels and at home about the rudeness of the french population towards americans; We must have been lucky. We were completely lost and slightly irritable from heat and hunger searching for our hotel, when this little old french lady approached us and asked how she could help. We showed her the address and the map, but she didn't know where the hotel was either. At this point most people would have just given up and left with a departing, "good luck," but not her. She led us to a bus stop with a larger map and asked people on the street for us until she could finally point us in the right direction. We were quite pleased with our first french encounter.
Hotel D'Amiens
Can we say Language Barrier. The hotel receptionist spoke no english, not that we should have expected her to, but again we were quite spoiled up to this point. The hotel room was amazing, compared to the flying pig. We had our own balcony, which we hung hand washed clothes out to dry on one day and it rained while we were out (needless to say it took three days for our clothes to dry). Oh well, the rain just helped with the rinsing.
Other quick notes about the hotel:
No shower curtain
hand held shower head
hair dryer from 1930
Over indulgence in free Croissants for breakfast
Decided to stay an extra night so we could spend a day at the Palace of Versailles
Quite
More to come later... out of time on the internet
We love you all!!!
