Waking for the first time in Byron there was only one thing on our mind…go surfing!
We hired three boards from a shop in town, eventually fitted them in the van and went looking for a decent surf spot. We drove without really knowing where we were going but eventually ended up at a viewpoint at Cape Byron. The view was amazing; we even saw three dolphins swimming just below us. We couldn’t find a parking space at the first beach we went to but we did see Jenson Button!

The weather was perfect beach weather and we enjoyed the surf although the waves weren’t as regular as at Surfers so we struggled a bit getting some good standing time.
Some sunbathing later we went out again and had more joy hitting the waves this time. We loaded the boards into the van and headed back to the campsite. That nigh we had a walk around the town, picked up a takeaway and mooched on the beach with a few beers.
The next day it was pouring down but we still had a day left of our board hire so we went to the beach anyway! It was pretty cold and even though it was windy the surf wasn’t that great so we called Natalie and she came to pick us up.

While in the Area we also spent a day in Nimbin, about an hour or so south of Byron Bay. It’s a bit of a hippy town with a different outlook on life to the rest of the world! A day there was enough, so back to civilization we went!
We left Byron on the 25th with a big drive ahead of us to get down to Canberra and the Blue Mountains.
