We are living in Canberra for the next three months.  It is a very pleasant and livable city with little traffic and lots of greenery -- in a normal year.  We are here during the worst drought in memory, twelve years of below average rainfall.

Fires and smoke are prevalent on the horizon and water use restrictions are severe.

Its the capital city with well though out blvds and monuments -- actually -- a Washinton DC wannabe(smile)-- actually nicer and more liveable without any of the blight or ridiculous traffic coming in from Virgina and Maryland.

The cars are all different, the english is different and the animals are different. The food is great and the people are nice and friendly.

Things are pricey $3.00 candy bars -- $70.00 to fill a sedan -- yikes what would it cost to fill my Tahoe?

and what riles us the most is parking -- you pay for it everywhere -- the country is a blasted desert with a billion square miles of barren land full of kangaroos but you can't find a place to park without dropping five bucks, even when you grocery shop or go to work-- lets not even talk about Sydney yet -- thats the next subject-

Upcoming preview -- Mom's lizard and snake encounter followed by "Blasted Buses"  and look forward to the

Sydney Harbour paparazzi.

Well -- more later, no worries --

Hi Bitty & Daryl, It's great reading about your impressions of Australia, it's people and your experiences. It's 1 degree here today, and with the wind chill 20 below! What a difference from what you're having. Love Jan
