Corinth Canal

We got up early to take the suburban train from Athens to Corinth. The train was supposed to take about an hour. In confusion when the train went east (Corinth is west of Athens) we got off, thinking it was the wrong train. However, what we did not know was that the train reversed directions at some other stop. After we figured this out, we had to wait for another train to Corinth. In the end, it was okay as we arrived in Corinth and left on the same train we would have if we'd gotten in an hour before.
Once in Corinth, we took a taxi to the canal. The Corinth Canal was cut through solid rock to link the Ionian and Aegian Seas. The canal is over 6 km long, 23 m wide, and the sides stretch 90 m above the water. We stood on a bridge the crossed the canal and were impressed by its size and the work that must have gone into cutting it out of the rock.
When it was time to leave, we had to flag down a taxi. Although there many passing us, none would stop. Aidan (with her madly waving arms) finally suceeded in getting us a taxi and we just made our train back to Athens.
