We Finally Got There
From Maehler Family Blog in Mainz, Germany on Jul 22 '07
Things went creepily well for us at the airport, to the point that we got a bit paranoid...rightfully so, as after we boarded the plane there was a two-hour delay in leaving. There was a couple next to us with a chihuahua in a small crate, which alleviated any guilt on Lisa's part about leaving Pedro behind. Don't think he would have been too grateful to have been stuck in a box for over 13 hours!
Benjamin picked us up at the Frankfurt airport and took us on the
"scenic tour" back roads to the Mainz Hilton. We spent the afternoon walking around in the rain appreciating the beautiful historical buildings and cobblestone streets.
Foods of the Day: Doener Sandwich at a sidewalk stand (turkish lamb gyros with garlic and chile sauce), Apfel Schorle (half apple juice/half bubbly water), and Handkaese mit Musik (handcheese with music). I asked the waiter what "music" meant in this context, and he told me it meant onions. Onions??? Yes, due to the fact that about two hours after you eat this stinky, gelatinous cheese with onions and oil you charm your partner with a certain "music"...no further comment necessary!
