Flew past Cotopaxi volcano on the descent into Quito. Actually Quito is surrounded by mountains and volcanoes which makes the landing interesting.

We could have done with an extra day before joining our next tour in Quito at 6pm as we had got up really early to get to Lima 2 hours before our flight.

However, our spirits were raised as we came down the escalator in Quito airport and saw a big St Andrews flag through the window - after a bit of a double take we realised it was Bernardo, Cristina and their family who had come to the airport to meet us!

This was a great surprise, our bags were also first off and we joined them within 5 minutes.

After a quick stop to check in and a shower Bernie took us for lunch in the club before giving us a quick tour of the city. Couldn´t have been a better start to our visit to Ecuador and it was great to see Bernardo again after all these years.

This computer is not uploading photos so will add later...

Remember that nice smell of barbeques which you blogged about in Uruguay? Well you might also get that on your return to Heathrow... fresh outbreak of foot 'n' mouth has been detected in cattle in southern England.
