First Day in Monterrey

The flights were easy and so was finding the bus stop in San Antonio. Walking around dowtown San Antonio, Waiting for my bus, I stumbled upon The Alamo and stopped in to tour its free museum. On the bus to the Laredo/Nuevo Laredo/The Border we watched Erin Brokovitch in Spanish and I spoke a while with a guy around my age who got off before the border. At the border I descended from the bus and was directed to a rundown bunker where I was searched and told to buy a tourist visa. Later, when they found out I was Brazilian, I was interrogated for several minutes, but only concerning Brazilian Soccer. After that, several more hours busride through increasing shrubby  landscape and we pulled into the bus station here in Monterrey. On the bus I had already looked up a hostel at which I had thought I might stay but, when it failed to turn up after a relatively thorough sweep of the neighborhood, I settled for a plain, clean, and slightly pricier alternative. Today I woke up, changed money and bought a watch. Right now I am getting hungry and I'm thinking of getting my hands on some fresh tacos! Other than that, today  I will continue to explore the city--I am in an internet cafe on a walking street near the huge Parque Zarragoza--and continue planning my trip and tomorrow, I will try to visit a large canyon that is supposed to be somewhere around here.
