We decided we should see Uruguay as we were so close, and we were very pleased we did....

Getting here was easy enough, just 50 minutes on a ferry from BsAs. Colonia is a small tourist town, typical of many towns in South America in that it has an old town, full of cobbled streets and boutique shops, B&Bs and hotels.

We have seen some pretty spectacular sunsets in our time, but we reckon this was the best yet

We checked out the old town and it was very pretty. Climbed to the top of the lighthouse for the views - you can see BsAs on a clear day. However, it wasn´t long before the mosquitos attacked and sent us to seek cover and DEET. Within a few minutes of standing still, at least two would land on you for some supper.

Having bathed ourselves in mozzie repellent we ventured out and took a seat in bar on the coast with views over the sea where the sun sets. The sunset that followed was out of this world. We have seen some pretty spectacular sunsets in our time, but we reckon this was the best yet - some photos attached. Really recommend Colonia to all - very relaxing place to spend a day or so.

Good ice cream too. Didn´t have steak, so couldn´t possible comment...
