We arrived in Perth to beautiful autumnal weather, clear blue skies and 20 degrees centigrade. Perth has a lovely riverside location with huge palms lining the esplanade.

One afternoon we explored the jewel of the city, King's Park, with its avenue of lemon eucalyptus and many other native plants.

A boat from Fremantle took us to Rottnest Island where we walked from bay to bay marvelling at the stunning coastal scenery. Cape Vlamingh was particularly impressive with huge waves pounding the rocks, Little Parakeet Bay was quite the opposite, a tranquil haven.

The island is famous for quokkas, a small marsupial found almost exclusively here. We were thrilled to discover one nibbling tussocky grass- a great end to our Perth experience.
