The Captain Cook Highway, named after ol' James, stretches up in a pretty straight line from Cairns. We hired a car; a little white bucket, and the 5 of us piled in. We had the ipod cheese blasting all the way, raving road trip.

We went first to Cape Tribulation, which is a random assortment of hostels, hotels and private residences (also a few even randomer tourist attractions) buried off the road in the jungle. We stayed in such a one, that was just up from the beach. The jungle is scary at night. We played cards in the bar.

The next day we stayed on the beach til 12.30 then went out to the 'town' (2 little shops), then decided we wanted to go to the bug museum (see what i meant about random tourist attractions). The bug museum was, not surprisingly, full of dead bugs. It was however an extremely impressive collection. The largest bugs in the world were there in glass cases with pins through their middles. We then went into the live butterfly enclosure and a big beautiful blue one chased steph around thinking her flowery shorts were full of nectar.

We then drove down to Port Douglas and stayed at Dougies, which was a loovely place. I filled up empty beer bottles with goon so i could drink them at the bar and we played more cards. We had arrived on the weekend of the best night of the year apparently, some big masked festival. Sadly we were all too knackered to go along. We went into port douglas the next day, and it's a loovely little town full of pretty little shops and yummy restaurants.

That was the end of our expedition as we had nowhere to stay that night, so we returned to cairns. I have 2 days til i leave now, and my heart is breaking.
