Walking around London

After arriving in London on Saturday afternoon, we went and had an early dinner, and wandered along Gloucester Road, and looked at all the houses and wondered who might live in them. They cost a fortune to rent, or buy (or buy a lease of). They would have to be so rich! Most of them seem to cost at least £1000 a week, rent! Some up to £5000 per week. OMG...

We went back to our room, sat down, watched a bit of TV and realised that it was only 7pm, so we thought we might go for another stroll, along Cromwell Road, to Harrods. On the way we passed the Natural History Museum, which was beautifully lit up (as everything seems to be in London) and had a little market market and Ice skating rink next door.

We continued on to Harrods, which looks amazing at nightime. Much more spectacular than during the day. We ended up walking all the way to Hyde Park, and didn't get back to our room until two hours later. Its very easy to walk around London, no hills and always something to look at.

Yesterday (sunday) we met up with Mary Griffin and Michael, who picked us up at our hotel (very nice of them considering we are right in the middle of town) and they took us to Dover Castle, right on the English Channel, and the white cliffs of dover. We didn't have much luck - it seemed to take forever getting there with traffic jams, and then when we finally got to the castle it was closed for "conservation" but really they are filming a movie there about Ann Bolyn. With Eric Bana starring???? Thats what one of the crew said anyway.

We got to see the "secret" (not so anymore) Wartime Tunnels which were amazing, we then headed off to Canterbury for some dinner and refreshments.

Its a gorgeous old fashioned town, lots of tudor style buildings dating back a LONG time. Surrounded by a big wall, and had a big cathedral there too.

It was dark by the time we got there, at 4pm. Right now its dark outside and its exactly 4:22pm. How depressing!

Today we have had a big day walking around town. We jumped on the tube and went to Buckingham Palace to see the changing of guards, but because its winter they only do it ever other day. Not today. We then went to London Eye, which was fantastic. And not as scary as I expected it to be! You cant even feel your moving the capsules are so big. It was lovely blue sky and quite mild at this stage too. From there we went to Trafalgar Square, and Leicester Square and bought (half price) tickets to see Chicago tonight from the cheap ticket box. We paid £55 for both of us. Thats half price! oh and two rows from the front. How good is that! Can't wait. We then had some lunch, and made our way over to Tower of London, and Tower Bridge. Pretty amazing, but gruesome stuff there. They seem to be quite proud of the torturous history they have... Thats all for today! We're going to have a rest for a while before we head out again to see Chicago.
