We visited my grandma and extended family for a few days - they reside in Erfelden, which is just outside of Frankfurt. This is personally my favorite area of Germany for several reasons:
1) close to several bordering countries
2) great, great, great food
3) close enough for a wonderful day trip to the Rhein river valley - a must, and I believe a world heritage site.
love it!!! of course, this is not complete without a world class german meal :)
