We travelled a short distance to the seaside town of Waterville, which was tiny but nice. Its claim to ‘fame’ is as the preferred holiday destination of Charlie Chaplin. They have a little statue of him near the beach.
From Waterville we drove on to Caherdaniel and just to the East we stopped off at a little beach. Although it was still a bit miserable the rain had stopped so Jay and Ella went down with bucket and spade ;-) It turned out to be a great spot, first of all Jay found a starfish in a little pool and then, as we were leaving, a pod of dolphins came into the bay!

From where we were parked we were looking down on the turquoise waters and could see the dolphins really clearly. They swam around for about half an hour and were playing and jumping out of the water. At one stage one of them caught a big fish, perhaps 50cm long and was tossing it out of the water and catching it again!
Next stop was Staigue Fort, a ruined ‘ring fort’. It was very impressive with walls up to 4 or 5m high, and in places up to 4m thick. You can walk up to the tops of the walls and also see 2 small rooms inside the walls.

We travelled the final leg of the Ring of Kerry back through Kenmare and into the Killarney National Park. There is some great scenery as you get close to Killarney and the lakes with sheer sided black rocks disappearing into them look quite surreal.
Dave.
