Hoi An
From Vietnam in Hoi An, Vietnam on May 07 '07
What can I say? Every girls dream...tailor made clothes and boots, any design you like for cheap, cheap, cheap! Cindy, Ella and I had a fabulous morning looking in all of the shops and working out what we wanted. It is a very good thing that I am not home for 9 months, otherwise the credit card would have been used and abused!
While we were waiting for the clothes and boots to be made we took part in a cookery course where we learnt to make some Vietnames cuisine: pho (noodle soup), river fish wrapped in banana leaf and green papaya sald with squid. The lady was slightly protective of her kitchen and it took a little while for her to let us join in! (Maybe cooking classes are different in Vietnam!)

We also visited the ruins of My Son set in the valley surrounded by hills and streams and overlooked by the massive Cat's Tooth Mountain. The site has been divided up into 10 groups by archaeologists. Some of the groups are being renevated and others have been overtaken by groups of spiders!
During our time in Hoi An we got up in the early hours to watch the fishermen bring in the catch from the night before. Witnessing the women gut, peel and sell the fish and seafood was a photo opportunity not to be missed! Kate - when I got home with a delightful aroma I thought of you...it would have been you paradise! :)
A highlight of Hoi An was the art. Throughout the town there are gorgeous art gallerys displaying traditional and abstract work from the local artists. As always I invested in some...just wait until I get home, there is not going to be any empty space on the walls!
