Back on the Mainland
From Hakuna Matata in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on Mar 11 '07
We had to leave Zanzibar and get back to Stone Town because we have had big changes of plan....and I needed a new passport to move on! I'm really pleased that I have filled a 32 page passport in less than 5 years....a life well lived!
So on to the overnight ferry, the flying horse, in to the VIP area and a good nights sleep on the 9 hour crossing. Well almost. The ferry was due to leave at 9pm and at that time there were only 8 people in our section.....but by 10:30pm, when it departed, there were bodies everywhere, probably 50 people on the floor, on window ledges...and us on the sofa. We got some sleep in Artic conditions, I was in my swaet pants, rain pants and rain jacket over three shirts due to an a/c unit that wanted to freeze ice cream.
Change of plans!
Arrived in to Dar Es Salaam at 6am and after a quick shower I was off to the passport office to be told that I had to wait in Dar for 14 days to get the new one. Hmmmmmm!
Today (Wed 14th), I am hopeful that it may be ready on Friday 16th and we can move onwards.
So, in the next 10 weeks we are trying to do Ngorangora, Serengeti, Gorillas in Uganda, Madagascar, Egypt and Morocco. So far we have the flight from Morocco to Los Angeles booked for May 24th and not much else...Africa really does take some work! We are really excited for the next ten weeks and if my passport arrives, we will be sprinting on as Travelists....a cross between travelersa nd tourists...the only way to move in Africa!!
