Recovery Time at the Beach

(Ronnie's story) We decided to rent a car to explore the beaches of Zanzibar. On Wednesday morning, we drove a little over a hour from Stone Town to Nungwe Beach. Nungwe Beach is one of the top tourist destinations in Africa. I was surprised to see how underdeveloped the area was... the road was unpaved and very poor the last few miles to the beach and there trash everywhere. Our hunt for the "perfect" place to stay on the beach proved challenging. The temperature was in the 100's and very humid but none of the ten hotels we visited had any electricity- no aircon, no fans, nothing! The prices were all over the place- anywhere from $30 to $120. After walking around for a few hours drenched in sweat, the last hotel we looked at had a working generator. Nick was a little under the weather, with the flu, so he took full advantage of the cool room and had a lovely swim in a very warm ocean.
