Hello, big gap for carnival i´ll fill it in another time! too much to tell! After an all nighter got a cab to the bus statioin and literally picked up a guy I met travelling, Owen, from the floor and we headed on a 15 hour bus trip to Curtitba then Ihla do Mel. Bus was the best ever....exactly what we needed!!air con beds etc!
Rocked up to Curitiba at about 12 at night bedded down ina cosy 2 bedroom room, it was basic, but nicer than our rio hostel!Still on cold showers...what do hot feel like!? Then did the classic overslept by 5 hours so missed the ´brasil´s best train journey´! So we got the bus to Ponto del Sol and then got a very pleasant boat to Ihla do Mel, the island everyone had been going on about! Sadly prices were very expensive....about 160 Reals for a night...40 quid...so we decided best plan after wondering this island with no roads with our bags to do the sensible thing and have a beer to asses the situation.....8 later 4 shots of cachesa and we are in a bar after meeting a english couple who point us in the direction of accommodation. So we checked it out, it was jungle like but we have kinda come to accept that, but we are warned about sleeping near the window for fear of things that land on your head.....not overly keen...then the owner starts swatting bugs on my would be bed....yeah its not an option...so after taking full view of the island which in our modest opinion came across as like something out of the rescuers..swampy still 36 degrees but expensive. so we did the English thing, ha a beer to think about it! Met some argentine/colombian travellers who gave me lots of things to do in colombia which is good. they offered to sell owen a neckalce but it was too small so he said if she made a larger one hed buy it(they were travelling on the money they made from her making the jewelry)So she went home to make this necklace, meanwhile some very gay brazilian guy came on to owne and we had to escape pronto and ended up kipping on the beach! Apparently like 80 guys with pitch forks investigated our camp and owen scared them off with his pen knife and a mini maglite(of course i was fast asleep even Thor´s thunder couldnt wake me..)We then woke on a lovely morning and showered in the sea....travellers I hear you cry! We decided that the island was gonna be too costly so embarked on the very scenic return journey by boat to Paranagua. Anyone that is interested owen can provide security serbvices, the name of his company is ´slice em and dice em´!
Ilha do Mel..not so cheap
