Crete

So my new travel partner is Dominique Turcotte from Montreal. Her english is quite good and I'm attempting to brush up my french...... not overly successful however. It was hard to leave all our friends in Ios, but after 12 days we figured it was time to move on..... and as we were both sick from too much drinking I assume our bodies will thank us I'm sure.

We got off the ferry last night and began a VERY hopeless hunt to find Hellas Rooms Rent that we heard was better than the Greek Youth Hostel in Iraklion, however we couldn't find it and were so fed up we finally went back to the Youth Hostel.... BIG mistake. CREEPIEST seediest place ever. It was like a creepy haunted house with no locks on the doors, no bedding, no toilet paper, no pillow and was SO dead, I think only one other person was staying in the whole place. We both agreed we were SO glad we had each other. It even had a 1am curfew! Anyways, we were so tired we just read (by headlamps and lots of giggling as the lights were terrible and our situation seemed pretty glum) so we were definately missing Ios by that point! This morning we packed our stuff and went to find the other hostel which was actually close, we just missed it apparently, and it is SO much nicer. Bedding, nice atmosphere, roof patio, nice washrooms, very good.

Today we explored the city which seems enormous, but lots of cool outdoor markets and shops, and ruins and history popping up all over. There are people everywhere, so it's a big change from what we're used to, but it's welcome!

We went to the Archaelogical Museum which was really interesting, some great carvings and art, and as Dominique is in art she was my guide a bit. I think i had some weird food poisoning and was sick this afternoon so we had a siesta and are now just at a cafe before we go exploring more!!
