Oakura

After climbing Mount Taranaki, we drove up to New Plymouth, a small city situated along the sea. There did not seem to be an awful lot going on here, so we drove a bit further, along the Surf Highway, and ended up staying at Aokura. Apparently this is the best place in Taranaki (and arguably New Zealand) for windsufing. We stayed at Wave Haven, a small guesthouse which mostly accomodates surfers, hence the very relaxed atmosphere. On Oakura's beach we had our first swim in New Zealand's sea, great waves!!

We chilled, watched a movie on a big projector in the living room whilst the owners celebrated their daughter's birthday (although she was in Australia on a long holiday) with friends with a big BBQ and house music (to which we fell asleep).
