Flew into Cairo and got to the hotel without any issues. Met my new Argentinian friend, Daneil, and we went off to the Pyramids. Egypt is starting to get hot and at the pyramids we were totally exposed to the heat. We didn't get burnt but it's a new sensation for me. Nowhere I have been yet is this hot. We spent the day at the Giza pyramids, the highlight of which was the Great Pyramid. Last time I was here this pyramid was closed. They always close one of the three at any given time in order to restore and preserve. So this time we went in the big one. IN the main chamber Daniel and I starting humming "ooohm" and the resonance was awesome. We did that for a good 15 minutes and then a lady came in, who a journalist told us belonged to a cult that believes being in the main chamber was a way to astral project, and laid herself down in the empty sarcouphagus. She proceeded to sing along with us and then we had a good 15 minutes of singing in the main chamber. It was excellent. A wonderful acoustic experience and well worththe trip back to Egypt to see this one pyramid.

The next day we met Leo, the gregarious Cubano, and took the metro to the Coptic Christian part of Cairo. From there we walked around and saw mosques and the Nilometer (which in ancient times was used to measure the height of the nile during the flood. The higher the nile the greater the taxes on crop share.).

off to the Pyramids

After that day we all arranged a tour together and caught the night train to Aswan. See next entry.
