Quite a day! A day of firsts. My first visit to 'Hooters', my first experience of 'true sushi', my first accosting by two local girls, (yes we’re sure they were women!) as we took and evening stroll down Orchard Street.

Singapore’s an interesting place. A real mixture of the old and new with massive skyscrapers and enormous shopping malls dotted around 200 year old Chinese shops and houses. Getting around is pretty easy. The MRT is the city’s underground system and has an easy ticket system which gives you a credit card for your single journey. Dead simple and costs about 50p a journey. Our first use of it took us to Clarke Quay which, we discovered doesn’t come into its own until night! We had an ice-tea in ‘Hooters’ where, to be honest, the girls weren’t as you’d expect from seeing the American bars. Eastern women don’t really fit the ‘Hooters’ mould!

Singapore girls just don't do Hooters!!!!

Next stop, China Town. I think it was here that we really noticed what became known as the ‘Singapore Stench’ (SS). We think it’s a combination between incense, Chinese food and something else. It’s really indescribable, not at all nice, and exists absolutely everywhere!!! On Chris’s recommendation, we found ‘Tatsu Sushi’ and while Pedro tucked into various veggie dishes, I, having made the error of asking what they recommended was presented with about 7-8 dishes of…… I am not 100% sure of what! To start with, sliced oyster – raw (of course) and consequently the texture from hell! Deep breath – swallow – really not good. The raw fish kept coming, mostly palatable but all pretty scary. I thought I’d survived the ordeal until our friendly waitress produced a steaming bowl of ‘SS’. Two sips and “Thanks – I’m done.” £50 for the experience – value? Hmm…!

After a visit to the famous Raffles hotel we headed back, ‘SS’ still ringing in our nostrils! Ate a ‘normal’ meal to recover and went for a stroll for ice cream. Several women ‘looking for company’, and two particularly friendly local girls who avoided Pedro’s side swerve and attached themselves to me, kept us amused.

A lot packed into one day. Singapore’s an interesting city but I’ll be happy to leave if I’m honest. The Singapore stench is just way to overpowering and sickly.

Aussie tomorrow – can’t wait. Tresser’s been sent home with his mental issues still a problem. On the up-side, K.P. hit a ton and Jimmy Anderson took 3 for as we drew a three day warm up against N.S.W. C’MON BOYS!!!!!
