We went on a tour this day to the see the River Loch Ness and go out on a boat on it, to the Culloden Battlefield and to Urquhart Castle. The whole day was amazing! I haven't felt that good in ages. We were blessed with a beautiful sunny day and the whole day I felt like I was in heaven...

The Tour

the whole day I felt like I was in heaven...

First we went to the Culloden Battlefield, passing some glorious sights along the way, like the canal, River Ness and cathedrals. The morning was so frosty, so pretty. We learnt some interesting and fairly gory history about Scotland. The tour guide was really good. He has been studying the Loch Ness and the myths of the monster for something like 17 years and is the founder of the Discover Loch Ness website I think.

See the mist on the river? This is because the river is always approximately 5 degrees celcius and the air outside is colder, so it causes like a steaming effect. It looks so eerie an magical!

I went on the boat ride on the Loch Ness which was so nice. (Adriana didn't come on this bit 'coz she has been before.) So many Aussies on the tour bus! The Scotsman on the boat was a lovely old man, making jokes wiht me about going for a swim.. yeah right!

We then went to Urquhart Castle and spent some time walking around. It was the most beautiful day, so peacuful and serene. I will never forget it! I was just on top of the world : ) Nothing felt difficult this day.

We also learnt about the Loch Ness monster of course including all the different forms it has been believed to be, as well as seeing the original video footage of the woman who first claimed to see the monster.

Adriana and I had dinner in an Indian Restaurant - it was good food, not fantastic, but nice! (Great compared to the average Scottish meal that's for sure!)

In the evening, I went for a drink with an Aussie guy called Andrew who was there just for the day. He was going back to Australia in a couple of weeks (taking his English wife-to-be with him), and had come to see Inverness and Urquhart Castle as one of his ancestors was a staff member in the castle thousands of years ago. Was nice to chat with someone about the experiences of living in the UK.
